World Without War is Diverse and Beautiful

Over 200 students from 19 Art Schools of Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk oblast took part in the International Contest of Youth ArtWorld Without War devoted to the 70th Anniversary of the Meeting on Elbe. In partnership with the United States Consulate General in Yekaterinburg the contest and final exhibit was organized by ShlemGraphic Arts Fund, Union of Art Teachers and Yekaterinburg Gallery of Modern Art.

The final exhibit and award ceremony took place at the Yekaterinburg Gallery of Modern Arts on May 6. The U.S. Consul General Otto Hans Van Maerssen and Chairman of the Contest Organizational Committee Victor Malinov handed diplomas and awards to the winners. The main prize, a graphic tablet was awarded to Yelena Yakovleva from Lesnoy Arts School for her drawing “A Farm”. Other winners of the first prize in different age categories included Maria Zyryanova from Dyagilev Lyceum (Yekaterinburg); Darya Shirokova from Yekaterinburg Arts School #9, and Anastasia Merkushina from Lesnoy Art School. A Jury’s Award went to a student with special needs Anna Zhukova from Zarechny Art School. As Consul General mentioned in his greeting remarks, “the level of works represented here shows that these works are not by future artists but by the current artists who will bring fame to the Urals art school”.

The exhibit will be on display at the Yekaterinburg Gallery of Modern Art until May 12 after which it will tour Sverdlovsk oblast towns.
