Statement by Ambassador John J. Sullivan: “The violent and criminal assault on the U.S. Capitol during the recent proceedings to certify the results of the presidential election and the victory of President-elect Biden, is a grave reminder of how important it is to value and safeguard the essential elements of our republic that are enshrined in our Constitution, including the right to vote and the freedoms of speech and peaceful assembly. Rule by a violent mob is not, and has never been, a part of our constitutional system.
The United States, its institutions, and its people have proven to be remarkably resilient over the 230+ years of our republic. Together, we will overcome this dark moment in our history, as we have in the past.”
