On Sunday, May 28, Russians will celebrate Border Guards Day. Activities and large groups are expected in city parks throughout the Russia. Brawls and other incidents of public disorder, often fueled by the consumption of alcohol, have occurred in past similar celebrations. Police officers will likely be conducting regular identification checks, especially near tourist attractions and near rallies.
Additionally in Moscow, the government has given permission for protestors to march against proposed renovations in the city. Participants are expected to gather at 1 PM on Sunday near the Leninskiy Prospekt metro station.
Carry proper identification at all times – a U.S. passport with a current Russian visa must be carried in public and produced if requested by Russian police.

U.S. citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
