On March 10, Russian-American photographer Nina Alovert’s exhibit “The Gorgeous Features of My Dear Friends” opened at the Museum of Modern Arts in Birobidzhan, capital of the Jewish Autonomous Region. Alovert, a celebrated octogenarian photographer and ballet critic, who was born in the Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States in 1977, had premiered her Consulate-supported exhibit in Vladivostok in November, with a month long stint in Khabarovsk following. For decades Alovert has actively cooperated with the Russian periodical press in the United States and Russia, photographing famous Russian and Soviet émigré ballet dancers, writers, and film stars, many of them her close friends as the title of the exhibit implies. The exhibit will be open to the public for a month.
