On January 23, Information Resource Center Vladivostok held its monthly book club meeting, led by PAO Erik Pugner. Book club discussions are planned to foster understanding and awareness of life in the United States and American culture, as well as to give participants an opportunity to exercise their English Language skills. At this month’s meeting book club members discussed The Round House by Louise Erdrich and talked about Native American history and culture, Ojibwe oral traditions and myths and their relevance to the themes of the novel, the significance and symbolism of the roundhouse, federal and tribal laws, justice and revenge, and the role of gender both in authorship and as portrayed in the book.
