The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing global technical problems with our overseas passport and visa systems. This issue is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document, or visa category, but does impact applicants in Russia.
U.S. passport applications accepted overseas or after May 26, 2015 are affected by this delay. Passport applicants with an urgent need to travel within the next 10 business days should consider requesting an emergency passport.
Applications for a U.S. visa made after June 8, 2015, are also affected by this delay. Nonimmigrant visa applicants who did not submit their DS-160 online application prior to June 9, 2015, should reschedule their interview appointments. Applicants who submitted their DS-160 application for a U.S. visa on or after June 9, 2015, should cancel their current appointment and reschedule it for a day later than June 22nd. Applicants with an emergency need to travel, should contact consulmo@state.gov to see whether they qualify for an expedited appointment.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these worldwide computer systems issues and are working urgently to correct the problem and restore full operability.
