A number of U.S. Government Federal Agencies are active in Russia. Cooperation is very broad, including both traditional and non-traditional forms of assistance. NASA has a long history of cooperation with Russia and the Soviet Union dating back to the 1960’s. Cooperation since the tragic events of September 11 has developed into areas that have been traditionally considered not a priority. These include combating international terrorism, trafficking and narcotics. Non-proliferation and democratic reform assistance continue to play a major role in U.S. cooperation with Russia.
