Amy Ballard, a senior specialist for historic preservation at the Smithsonian Institute, visited Yekaterinburg this past weekend. During her visit, Ms. Ballard spoke with enthusiastic university students in Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yekaterinburg about the Smithsonian and about similarities between Russian and American architecture. On Monday, Ms. Ballard and her colleague, Sally Yerkovich, conducted a workshop on a number of topics, including museum management, social media use by museums, building a volunteer coalition, museum marketing, and fundraising. About 60 museum experts, librarians, students and interested members of the public took part. The slides from Amy’s presentations are on the Consulate’s SlideShare page.
